Polyisocyanurate (PIR) is a cured form of polyurethane and is the most commonly used material in the production of sandwich panels. PIR is a lightweight, rigid foam with high insulation properties and excellent fire resistance. It is also moisture-resistant and relatively low-cost due to its widespread use in building insulation products. PIR core panels are well-suited for applications such as roofing systems, wall insulation, and floor insulation, thanks to their low thermal conductivity and structural stability. These panels are available in lengths of 500–1000 mm and widths of 40–150 mm, providing flexibility to meet a variety of construction requirements.
Polyurethane (PR) core panels share many characteristics with PIR panels, offering high insulation values and excellent fire resistance. However, PR panels are generally heavier than PIR panels, resulting in slightly lower insulation properties and higher costs. They are often used in applications where the additional strength and durability of PR is required, such as high-load roofing. PR panels are also ideal for areas where a higher initial thermal resistance (R-value) is needed, as the foam retains heat more effectively.
